Upgrading to BC Racing coilovers is one of the best ways to improve the handling and stance of your G37. Here is the professional installation guide with timestamps to walk you through the process.
Part 1: Front Installation
1. Component Disconnection [00:23]
-
Remove the front wheels (21mm).
-
Unbolt the brake line from the strut body (12mm) and release the ABS wire clips [00:40].
-
Disconnect the upper control arm from the knuckle (14mm). Pro Tip: Do not twist the bolt; remove the nut first to avoid stripping the knuckle [01:03].
2. Lower Strut & Sway Bar Link [01:34]
-
Remove the lower strut bolt (19mm nut/17mm bolt), which also serves as the sway bar link mounting point [02:04].
-
Note: It is often easier to disconnect both sides of the sway bar at once to avoid fighting the tension [01:49].
3. Strut Removal & BC Coilover Install [02:32]
-
Unbolt the three nuts on the top hat from the engine bay (12mm) [02:45].
-
Sneak the old strut out and slide the BC coilover into place, ensuring you have the side marked "Front Left" or "Front Right" correctly [03:28].
-
Reconnect the lower mounting point and the upper control arm [04:14].
Part 2: Rear Installation
4. Rear Strut Removal [06:44]
-
Reach into the upper wheel well to remove the two 12mm nuts from the top hat [06:56].
-
Remove the 17mm lower shock bolt. If the shock is blown, you can compress it by hand to pull it out [07:21].
5. Spring Bucket & Safety [07:33]
-
CRITICAL: Use a floor jack (or pole jack if on a lift) to support the spring bucket before unbolting it. If you don't, the spring will shoot out under high tension [08:02].
-
Remove the 17mm bucket bolt, lower the jack slowly, and remove the factory spring and rubber boots [08:24].
6. Installing Rear Adjusters (Track Tip) [10:00]
-
For easy dampening adjustments, you can drill a 3/8" hole through the body of the car into the interior [11:30].
-
Safety Warning: This is a two-person job. One person must pull back the rear shelf to watch for airbags and wiring while the other drills from below [10:40].
-
Feed the extension cable through the hole and hide it in the child seat mount flap for a clean look [13:52].
Final Setup & Settling [14:56]
-
Dampening: Set your initial dampening (BCs come with a knob for easy adjustment).
-
Ride Height: Once the car is on the ground, do not judge the height immediately.
-
The "Nifty" Rule: Drive the car for 10-15 miles to let the brand-new springs settle. The car will naturally lower slightly after this initial break-in period [15:31].
