Converting your G37 to a single exit exhaust is a popular way to save weight and get that aggressive "Z" sound. Here is the step-by-step guide for installing the ISR Performance GT Single Exit.
1. Removal of the Stock Exhaust [00:23]
-
Disconnect at Y-Pipe: Remove the two bolts connecting the mid-pipe to the Y-pipe. On stock systems, these are 14mm nuts [00:45].
-
Heat Shields: Remove the various heat shields and brackets using a mix of 10mm and 12mm sockets. Keep track of which side these come off of, as they can be tricky to realign [01:01].
-
Hanger Brackets: Unbolt the exhaust hanger brackets from the subframe (12mm). For the rear muffler section, there are three 12mm bolts holding the mount up [02:53].
2. Prepping the Mounts [03:52]
-
Transfer Hangers: You only need the driver-side hangers for the single exit.
-
The "Nifty" Trick: Use WD-40 or PB Blaster on the rubber hangers. This makes them slide off the metal prongs with ease [04:18].
-
Reinstall the driver-side bracket (two 12mms and one 10mm) back onto the car [05:59].
3. Installing the ISR Single Exit [06:42]
-
Rear Section: Slide the rubber hanger onto the ISR muffler section and bolt the bracket to the subframe using the 12mm hardware [07:06].
-
Mid-Pipe: Position the ISR mid-pipe and align it with the muffler and the Y-pipe.
-
Gaskets & Hardware: ISR uses 15mm and 16mm hardware. If you are bolting this to a stock Y-pipe, ensure you use the provided collector gasket to prevent leaks, as the ISR piping is significantly larger than stock [07:45].
4. Final Tightening & Finishing [09:33]
-
Tighten all bolts from the front to the back. Check that the mid-pipe has enough clearance and won't rattle against the chassis [09:41].
-
SEO Pro Tip: Bag and tag your old passenger-side hangers and store them in your garage in case you ever return to a dual-exit setup [10:24].
5. The "Heat Cycle" Warning [10:47]
-
CRITICAL: Before starting the car, wipe down the entire exhaust (especially the chrome muffler) with a clean rag and degreaser. If you leave fingerprints on the metal during the first heat cycle, the oils will burn into the finish, leaving permanent marks [11:05].
